Welcome from the Principal

Dear Parents, Students and Families,

Welcome to Chapman Heights Elementary School (CHES) and our school's website.  Just in case you are a new resident or first time visitor to our website, CHES is beginning it's second year of school on August 17, 2009.  CHES is the eighth elementary school in the Yucaipa-Calimesa J.U.S.D., and it was my honor to be selected as CHES' first principal.  I have served this school district for the past 17 years.

One of our goals last year was to create a sense of connectedness and a sense of belonging for our students, staff members and our families by having a variety of meaningful school events, and by establishing purposeful traditions.  I give much of the credit for many of our great school events to our supportive PTSA, led by President Jill Hickey, and a group of energetic and creative CHES teachers.  Our students, parents, and teachers had an active part in choosing our school mascot, school colors and the school motto, "Together We Can" before we could even occupy our beautiful new campus.

Another example of one of the traditions we developed last year and will continue this year is our Huge Undertakings and Great Successes (H.U.G.S.) assemblies held every Friday morning at the beginning of school.  The intent of H.U.G.S. awards are to motivate and recognize students, staff and volunteers who demonstrate exceptional behavior characteristics at CHES.  For 2009-2010, H.U.G.S. awards will focus on: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship.  You are invited to visit us on a Friday morning and share in the fun and celebrations of a H.U.G.S. assembly.

Our school website will continue to expand and serve as an important communication resource. We welcome your input and suggestions about the content of our school website. Thank you for visiting the website, and I hope the information you find is helpful.

Once again,  welcome to Chapman Heights Elementary School, and the second school year for CHES.  Our school's staff and I anticipate another magnificent year!

Together We Can, together we will.

My best regards,

Andy Anderson, Principal
